ICFAI Business School(IBS) GDPI at Hyderabad

This was my second GDPI session after Symbiosis. IBS (don't get confused with ISB) situated in Hyderabad is the main branch of all 12 branches. The seats of this branch are the only one which approved by AICTE. But mind it its ROI is pretty low. For a whooping 12+ lacs fees for 2 years you get an avg. package of 6-7 lac/annum. There are 900 seats announced officially for this particular branch. Its a well known brand in south India. I got a call from this college by giving IBSAT. You don't have to prepare much for the exam. Anyone who's been preparing for CAT can easily crack in this exam.

My GDPI session was on 18th Feb, 2014. A prepaid bus was provided by the college(collected 400 for to and fro, worth the buck). I would advice you guys to opt for the bus as the center is 23-33 km away from the city. We started from Nagarjuna Hills at round 7 am. There are lots of buses from 6:30 to 7:30 am. As an advice try to catch the bus as early as possible, because the first batch that gets there, their GDPI session starts early. We got into the next batch at 11:30 am. We reached the center in 1 1/2 hrs. Till 8:30 am we were at the center. Note that after 8 am nobody is allowed inside the campus even if you come by your own vehicle. Then there was documents verification, which gets over pretty soon. Then each person was given an identification paper. On the back of it a map of the college was provided. The college is very spacious. The place is well organized, there is a lawn in the back of the college, a huge corridor is there in the middle of the academic block. Lot of gap is provided between the main block and hostel. There is a swimming pool also in the campus. In a way of speaking you will get most of the things in the campus itself. One disadvantage is that it is very far away from the city. After the verification we had to wait for atleast 3 hrs for the session to begin. In this time we were allowed to have breakfast(it was self pay service). The snacks was costly though. The infrastructure is very good and it also had engineering college in the same campus.

The session started with a briefing which lasted for 45 min. Till then everybody was tired. Then were sent to various rooms in batches according to the enrollment id. Here a group of 12 members was formed and each group was sent for their respective GD room. There was a round table with scrap paper provided for each seat. There were 2 person in the panel. My topic was "Should services like transport be left to Market forces?". 15 minutes were given for discussion and 1 minute each to summarize. We had a healthy discussion but only 3-4 person were participating while the rest were mum. Then we were given a break for 10 minutes. After the break we were divided into groups of 5 and sent for PI. The PI had 2 panelist-a guy and a lady. One from the technical background and the other maybe from HR department. The technical guy was fun but the lady was very serious. He asked about myself, my future ambitions, strength and weakness. They were mainly asking from the form we filled. So be careful and remember all that written in there. They then asked me about my favorite subject. Asked why do MBA when from technical background, how it will help polish my future. Overall it was a great experience. At 2:30 pm the session was over and buses back to city was taking off. Majority of the students from the commerce and BBA.

SNAP WAT/PI at SIMS

I was selected for the WAT/PI of "Energy and Environment"(E&E), SIIB. My SNAP overall percentile was 69.83. For this course SNAP perc. from 27.4 were selected.

In the coming years MBA in E&E will have huge demand in the oil and gas sector. A student doing his master’s in Business Management with Energy and Environment will be able to deal effectively in energy audits, environmental economics and offer solutions in energy conservation which is the need of the hour. They will thus serve as experts who provide the crucial link between the world of technology, business and sustainable development.

My WAT/PI session was around 12pm on 7th feb, 2014 at SIMS, Pune. On reaching the center, document ordering started. I was asked for a copy of 10th, 12th, graduation(consolidated accepted) marksheet,  identity card (pan/license) and 4 copies bio-date(will be provided by them on the site for download). Till 1pm the ordering process took place and in between refreshments were provided(a sandwich of butter and tomato slices, good day biscuits and tea, sadly drinking water was not provided) . After that we were divided into groups for the selection process and sent to a seminar hall. Briefing session took place and then we were sent to classrooms for WAT. The WAT had two section- first one was on the topic "Technology is effecting the younger generation. Comment on it."(word limit: 600), second was on a picture depicting smoke emanating from the Taj Hotel, Mumbai and birds flying around(Word limit: 350). So, in this way they tested both creativity and your imagination.

Crowd was looking highly professional, candidates came with full executive dressing with suit, tie. PI started around 2:30 pm and continued till late 5 pm. Interview time period for each person was around 15 min. Again refreshments were provided, an ice cream and frooti. There were three person in the panel. A large table was there in between with one seat for the candidate. Group of panelist was highly selective, one was from technical department(probably a manger from a top company, mine was from mechanical department), second was from HR dept. and the third from the corporate world. All three didn't know each other. The technical person asked about my academics, few technical question- how does aeroplane take off? how does differential work? HR panelist asked why MBA, why E&E etc... The third was the most difficult one to cope up. He asked "Do you know what is your role as an E&E graduate in the Industry". If you try to give answer like managing, auditing the smoke emission etc... forget about the PI.

Overall interview was ok for my first attempt. No gk was asked by from me. If you have work exp. try to be thorough with your work and its relation with this field. B.Com students were totaling questioned about financial terms.
